Akai MPC Key 37: A New Hybrid of Beatmaking and Keyboard Performance

Akai Professional, the leading brand of music production and DJ equipment, has just announced a new product that combines the best of both worlds: the MPC Key 37. This device is a 37-key MIDI controller with a built-in MPC, the legendary drum machine and sampler that has been used by countless hip-hop and electronic music producers.

The MPC Key 37 is designed to offer a seamless workflow for creating beats, melodies, and chords, without the need for a computer or external hardware. It features a 7-inch touchscreen, 16 velocity-sensitive pads, eight assignable knobs, and a full-size keyboard with aftertouch. It also comes with standalone software that includes over 3,000 sounds, effects, and instruments, as well as the ability to record, edit, and mix audio tracks.

The MPC Key 37 is expected to be released in February 2024, just in time for the NAMM Show, the world’s largest trade show for the music industry. According to Akai, the MPC Key 37 is “the ultimate creative tool for musicians, producers, and performers who want to express themselves with both keys and pads.”

The MPC Key 37 is not the first hybrid device from Akai, as they have previously launched the MPC Live and MPC X, which are standalone MPCs with touchscreens and audio interfaces. However, the MPC Key 37 is the first one to integrate a keyboard, making it more versatile and accessible for different musical genres and styles.

The MPC Key 37 has already generated a lot of buzz and excitement among the MPC community, as well as the general music production scene. Some of the reactions and comments from social media and online forums are:

  • “This is a game-changer. I’ve always wanted to have an MPC and a keyboard in one device. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.”
  • “Wow, this looks amazing. I love the idea of having a standalone MPC with a keyboard. It’s like having a mini studio on the go.”
  • “I’m not sure about this. I think it’s too bulky and expensive. I prefer to use my laptop and a MIDI controller. Plus, I don’t like the layout of the pads and knobs.”
  • “This is a dream come true. I’ve been using MPCs for years, and I always wished they had a keyboard option. This is perfect for me. I’m definitely getting one.”
